Tesla’s infotainment dashboard screen tops Consumer Reports ratings

The infotainment system in Tesla Inc. vehicles topped a Consumer Reports satisfaction survey, with owners rating it highly in audio, calling, and navigation functions, the organization said Wednesday.

Display screens are increasingly prevalent, Consumer Reports said, citing IHS Markit data saying that 82% of vehicles sold this year came with a touch screen, up from 53% five years ago.

Consumer Reports also created a separate “hands off phone” ratings to grade the systems that are better at keeping drivers from picking up their phones while driving. Ford Motor Co.’s

A good infotainment system is not sluggish, and its controls are straightforward and intuitive. It’s also not too distracting, Consumer Reports said.

There’s “plenty of room for improvement,” with only 56% of owners reported they were “very satisfied” with their car’s infotainment, the organization said, citing data collected from more than 60,000 vehicles.
